I think I'll lose all my fandom cred in here
So Spn s4 has been very strong, and Heroes 3 is actually starting to get interesting despite the lame lame season opener.
But honestly? I think my favorite show this season is The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
wtf?
There might be a childhood association thing going on here too. Sarah Connor has always been the ultimate badass in my mind, and the random killification of her in T3 kind of spoiled the movie for me. The new actress and the character satisfy my image of her from T2 very well, which is quite impressive considering how hard it is to match up to childhood images.
John Connor's character is very solid. He displays all the teenage weaknesses without turning everything into a whiny pity party. I love how subtle his characterization is (and I hope it stays this subtle and doesn't turn into Big Hollywood Revelation lameness).
He's just so passive in the series, and with good reason. There's Lionness mommy keeping very close control over him. Cause seriously, "it's for your own good" doesn't cut it, "it's for your own good and the good of the entire fucking future" is more like it. And yknow, he accepts that. Which is cool, no whiny pity parties. But the fact that he's just basically trying to follow this script to make sure everything goes up to plan makes him really passive and without a will, and that makes him reckless...almost suicidally so. I like the character.
His interaction with mommy Connor is also ridiculously well written. I think the big turning point in the series will be when they stop being passive receptors of what the future is supposed to be and actually start using their knowledge of past and future to actually start making radical changes.
Cameron rocks too, that kind of goes without sayin... the multiple "personality" episode was really creepy-cool.
Anyway, I didn't give this series much of a chance at first since I, like most people, thought this was just another cheap easy buck remake/sequel in a market choking to death with cheap easy quick buck remake/sequel. It is a solid series though. The story, action, music (*see below) is quite up to par, but I find the real strength of the show is in the characterization.
I think I'm going crazy.
And casting Shirley Manson as the villain terminator of the season is genius.
.....
SHIRLEY FREAKIN' MANSON!!!!!!!!
(she even sings a few songs for the OST!)
Sick! :D
