21 Islamic, 3 Impressionist, 21 Ukiyo-e, -13 Cubist, -22 Abstract and 8 Renaissance!

Islamic art is developed from many sources: Roman, Early Christian, and Byzantine styles were taken over in early Islamic architecture; the architecture and decorative art of pre-Islamic Persia was of paramount significance; Central Asian styles were brought in with various nomadic incursions; and Chinese influences . Islamic art uses many geometical floral or vegetable designs in a repetitive pattern known as arabesque. It is used to symbolize the transcendent, indivisible and infinite nature of Allah.

People that like Islamic art tend to be more traditional people that appreciate keeping patterns that they learned and experienced from their past. It is not to say that they are not innovative personalities, they just do not like to let go of their roots. They like to put new ideas into details and make certain that they will work before sharing them with others. Failure is not something they like to think about because they are more interested in being successful and appreciated for their intelligence. These people can also be or like elaborate things in their life as long as they are tasteful. They tend to prefer geometric patterns and vibrant colors.

In most games, TV shows, manga and anime, the hero of the story has a difficult choice: sacrifice one or a few people in order to save many lives. The hero almost always chooses against doing it, and goes on about how they refuse to take any lives (even to the point of idiocy: like the Doctor refusing to kill the Daleks EVER), even at the risk of losing the entire world.

Now the heroes are supposed to be sympathetic, and the producers don't want the hero do anything that will seem unforgivable in the eyes of the audience. So it seems like the producers think this is the stance we should take: Never take a life, ever; and never sacrifice someone else in order to save the world.

So....do you agree with this? If JRPG Hero #398347 killed his beloved in order to stop the great demon Astrogoth from destroying the world, or if the Doctor finally decided to wipe out the Daleks, would this action be irredeemable in your eyes?

I guess demons aren't supposed to have "personalities" but, COME ON, every single demon in the show has been a carbon copy of these two archetypes:

1) Male Demon: John Travolta villain style douchebag acts tough though in a really lame kind of way

2) Female Demon: whiny prom queen who thinks she's being OH SO WITTY with her sarcasm but is just frankly very stupid

The only exceptions have been Genvieve!Ruby, Alistair (both forms are MAD LOVE) and Lilith (although Dental Hygienist!Lilith is unfortunately turning into carbon copy #2).

Katie!Ruby? Had #2 in SPADES. I was just watching reruns of season 3, and people who say she's the better Ruby just have nostalgia glasses on, I feel. So annoying. SO ANNOYING. Katie!Ruby is all like AW MAY GAWD LIKE MY SARCASTIC COMMENTS TOTALLY PROVE HOW BADASS I AM, N JUNK.

Genvieve!Ruby delivers her lines very awkwardly D: It's jarring at times, but I find her a much better character in general. She fits Ruby's role as this secretive manipulative behind-the-scenes force much better. She's more dark, poised and....mature I guess is a good word for it. You honestly don't know how much of what she says is genuine concern or acting. Katie!Ruby was just throwing hissy fits all the time.

Also: Uriel? Best Angel, or Bestest Angel ever? The badassery is sorely missed.

OK so everyone knows all the shows I love end up getting cancelled.

Sarah Connor Chronicles (OMG SEASON FINALE AND JESSE ARC!!!!!!!) is unlikely to come back for a third season D: D:

Please TV gods, don't let anything happen to Better Off Ted D: It's the most hilarious sitcom on TV so far, and Portia de Rossi's character is too awesome!

I want an AU story with Adam and Bela and Ellen together.

I have no idea how that'll work. They could be having adventures over the seven seas while fighting off Mistress Mysteria's ninja monkeys Lilith's sexy buckineer hench(wo)men for all I care, just make it happen!

I liked the kid :D

Music:So Weird- She Sells

Tell me I'm not the only one who remembers this show? I'm sure I've talked about this on my LJ before, but yknow what MY MEMORY SUCKS AND I WANT TO PLUG IT AGAIN NYAH. I've recently been watching episodes on youtube and found a torrent for it, so I'm getting all nostalgic :D

I used to love it in middle/high school. It was a rare gem in the Disney channel lineup. The show was made to be a kiddie X-Files. And yet this show reminds me of those Young Adult novels that are labeled YA because the main character is young, or because of the publisher, or because there's no cheap gimmicks to make it "gritty" like a rape scene or something. So Weird is pretty damn dark for a Disney show! It was never really scary, but the plot and the catchy rock-pop music and the creatures of the week all based on real urban legends made the show a great hit with older audiences.

The funny thing is that Disney execs woke up one day and went "wtf? We made a show like this for our channel??" and the third season was fluffier and more "kid friendly" (or what adults think kids are like. After working around kids all day for almost 3 years now, believe me when I say there's a HUGE abyssmal gap of Lovecraftian proportions between what adults think "kid friendly" is and what kids are really like). Ergo, it sucked. Ergo, we pretend there is no third season.

Actually, yknow, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Krikpe, the creator of Supernatural, is a closet fan of this show. The first season of Supernatural seems heavily inspired by this. I mean? Siblings with a love-hate relationship, rock music, traveling across America, ghosts based on urban legends, main character trying to find out what happened to their father who hunted supernatural things? That's a great big pile of HMMMM if I've ever seen one!

Anyway, while it's not horror, it's a definite must see for anyone who likes supernatural things. It's got enough adultness in it to be entertaining, but enough kidness to avoid the trap of being dark and gritty for the sake of being gritty. It's been one of those defining shows for me, that's for sure.

If you haven't seen it, do check it out, if you have, comment here so that I don't feel alone :D

Kotaku's article on zombies

Speaking of shambling, despite recent (and less recent, in the case of cult Italian director Lucio Fulci's works) filmmakers attempting to tell you otherwise, zombies should be slow. Simon Pegg, British comedian and Shaun of the Dead (pictured, above) actor/writer, puts this best, saying "speed simplifies the zombie, clarifying the threat and reducing any response to an emotional reflex. It's the difference between someone shouting "Boo!" and hearing the sound of the floorboards creaking in an upstairs room: a quick thrill at the expense of a more profound sense of dread."

THIS!

Last week's Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles....

Wow

Just....WOW!!

I've found my new obsession. Fuck Heroes, haven't watched it beyond the first episode of volume 4. I'll continue watching Dollhouse till it gets cancelled (if it lasts a whole season I'll be impressed). Supernatural teases a lot, but wastes too much time on filler episodes to be satisfying. Skins is more of a guilty pleasure than anything else. Reaper is fun but not much to sink your teeth into.

But Sarah Connor Chronicles...I love you. Let me count the ways.

1)The Plot
Smart, well written, very emotional. The one shot episodes don't really feel like filler, and the one shot characters are more fleshed out than recurring characters in most other series. The atmosphere is bleak without getting too ZOMG WE R SO GRITTY AND TOUGH LOOK AT HOW FUCKING DARK WE ARE, the human element is always there.

2)The Concept
Time travel is usually done pretty shoddily in TV shows and movies, but I thought the whole mechanics in SCC are really well thought out. Time traveling is shown as being really complex, with lots of layers and unforseen consequences and even a lil' bit of chaos and string theory to spice things up. To make an analogy, SCC's time travel subplot is to the Terminator movie franchise's what Chrono Cross' time travel concept is to Chrono Trigger's. Oy.

3)The Company
The SCC fandom is actually smart! They post metas and discussions and not only shippings and actor-drooling ;; I finally found my fandom home ;;

4)The Music
Shirley Manson singing Samson And Delilah I came...music eargasm!!

5)The Characters
See above about the recurring characters. I don't dislike any single character in this show. I find that this show treats it's characters with respect, if that makes any sense. There's a lot of care and attention given to the characters, and even the most minor character is well fleshed out. Without giving too much spoilers, I'd love to see a spin off story about Savannah Weaver. Her situation is the creepiest and most disturbing, imo! It's a good ensemble cast show, and even though Sarah Connor (<3) is the main feature of the story, they do let the other characters shine too.

6)The Awesome Female Characters
Strong, tough women characters <3 And I don't mean in a WATCH OUT BOY THIS FEMMEBOT IS COMING TO GET YA RAR MILIA JOVOVICH kind of way. I mean actually tough and awesome. It totally passes that test...the Benchdel one

7)Eye Candy of both genders
No one is ugly to look at ;) And it's all very natural beauty too.

8)Shirley Manson
SHIRLEY FREAKING MANSON BABY

In conclusion........IYOVEUVOWEIBPEIBEOIUBEWEOHBOEIBP@IUEGPGHEBOJHWBOIUQENWPI#IUEGPGHEBOJHWBOIUQENWPIIUEGPGHEBOJHWBOIUQENWPIIUEGPGHEBOJHWBOIUQENWPI YAY

Strike 2.

The Petrellis are too stupid to live (except for Angela <3), the whole plot was resolved so poorly it made the whole season pointless, that was a cheap and stupid thing to do to Meredith, and Sylar is more hateable (and not in a good way) than ever. When you bring Sylar back (and I KNOW you will, Tim Kraig has a hard on for his precious Petrellis and Faux-Petrellis), that's when I'll stop watching. There are many other shows that don't make me want to throw something at the screen out of sheer frustration.

(Equally frustrating cause the rest of the season- barring eps 1 and 2- was good)

No love.
